Unison at the East Coast Music Awards
A FREE Screening of "The Song and the Sorrow" followed by Q&A at the 2019 East Coast Music Awards: Festival & Conference at The Guild. Click here to register.
About the Film:
Prince Edward Island's Catherine MacLellan —the daughter of legendary singer/songwriter Gene MacLellan—grew up surrounded by her father’s music. He died by suicide when she was 14. The Song and the Sorrow follows Catherine as she journeys to understand her father and face her own struggles with mental illness. Catherine is determined to lift the oppressive burden of silence that accompanies the stigma of mental illness and hopes that others can take strength and solace from her story. Join Catherine and filmmaker, Millefiore Clarkes after the screening for a Q&A panel.
This free screening is open to the public with donations being accepted at the door in support of the Unison Benevolent Fund. Unison Benevolent Fund is a non-profit, registered charity that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community. We are here to help professional music-makers in times of hardship, illness or economic difficulties. Learn more at unisonfund.ca. Special thanks to the National Film Board (NFB) for sharing this film with us and making this event possible.
