The summer weather means festival and touring season is upon us. Whether you’re working on stage or behind the scenes, it’s a time of year that’s both exciting and exhausting for many music professionals. The busy schedules and constant travel of the summertime can leave us neglecting our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. That’s why this month we’re bringing discussions to our community that zone in on the pressures we feel as music professionals and how we can learn to take a step back for the sake of our well-being, and ultimately our performance.

We’re excited to be putting together two events that will not only help you learn how to take care of yourself, but they will also make you a better performer, and more efficient in the long run.

#MusicTalks: BALANCE with Fit On Tour and London Music Office

June 11

Harris Park Pavilion, London

Stepping away from the excitement and beauty of music is an extensive and intense industry that can be incredibly taxing on an individual. This #MusicTalks event is focused on mental health, wellness and physical well-being for those working in the demanding industry. Musicians work can be very isolating at times and is noted as having one of the highest depression rates in the workforce. The goal of this workshop is to assist in finding a balanced approach to life.

The event starts with a discussion that brings together representatives from the UNISON Benevolent Fund, Fit On Tour, Full Body Efficiency Treatment and local musicians. Discussions will cover a wide variety of topics including how to live a balanced life, looking after yourself mentally/physically and preparing yourself for the challenging hours and work you face in the music industry as many of the jobs in the music business work outside the traditional 9 - 5pm.

Fit On Tour’s mission is to educate and equip the live event industry with resources and information to support a balanced lifestyle, on or off the road. At #MusicTalks:Balance, the Fit On Tour team will guide attendees through a one-hour fitness workshop, demonstrating stretches and exercises that can be done anywhere, anytime using only your body weight. The Fit On Tour team believe exercise is key to maintaining a healthy, balanced life - mentally and physically, and that your surroundings shouldn’t limit you. Join in as we guide you through a workout that can be done in a hotel room, on a tour bus, or in your venue.

How do you prepare for a performance? It can be a huge undertaking without the proper knowledge of how to handle the stress, overstrain injuries, late nights and poor nutrition and all the other common challenges the working country artist and their team face.  What if there was a way to increase your stamina to practice and perform without pain?  What if you knew what kind of food would fuel you and give you energy for the show? What if there was a way to channel that anxiety into excitement before a performance?  What if you could find a way to sleep and recover so that you can bring your “A” game every time you step on stage?  Get the answers to all these questions and step up your performance through proven physical and mental self-care strategies. In this hands-on discussion, Certified Musician Fitness Professional Mike “The Rock Doctor” Schwartz will debunk the 3 most common wellness myths amongst the music industry and walk us through performance prep methods that’ll change the game for any artist who is serious about taking their career to the next level.
